Chimney chase covers

Last year we had a new SS chimney run on the side of the house. We finally got it enclosed and are going to start finishing the outside with stone veneer-hopefully before it gets way too cold.
We need to get a chase cover. When I called my installers, who are coming to measure since this is a custom job, I asked a rough price. Pretty sure the area is 4'x2.5'. We were thinking $5-700. Rough estimate with installation, and no true measurement, was $1500 from the installers.
Is that a bit insane? Of course everyone else is too busy until mid- November to even come a give us an estimate and our guys are squeezing us in. We may be at their mercy. I just want to use my damn stove

For a cap on the box? $1500 seems very high BUT, not seeing the situation it's hard to say. All I know is my guy does them with galvanized steel and they run $300-600 for a normal size like you described.
Stainless is obviously more expensive, Jersey is gonna be more expensive, there may other factors as well, and like you said, it's the wrong time of year to be doing it....

there are many online companies that allow you to input your info and customize the cover. i looked for one for ours which was about 6ft x 3.5ft. maybe $650. my upcoming new fireplace install will be replacing the existing galv cap with a SS 24ga one for about $400 after i twisted his arm.

I got mine from rockford supply $237.00 & installed it myself, stainless steel is the only way to go.

Got mine from Woodlanddirect.com - custom made, stainless, installed myself and a lot cheaper than $1500 !! A LOT cheaper.

All the above said, I'm a home improvement contractor, and we a customer starts quoting "on line prices" to me, I usually just tell them to buy it online and let me know how that works in the long run for them....
4 out of 5 become repeat long term customers.

I bought tires online and called my mechanic to mount and balance them. He's a buddy of mine, he just laughed and asked, "what, your computer won't mount, balance, and dispose of the old tires? What if we have an issue?..."

On line is good for a lot, but think about the follow ups...

I know it is a bad time of year to be dealing with this but our contractor who was going to enclose the chimney didn't get to us until last week, though we spoke with him back in June! Not worth telling the story....

I would prefer SS over galvanized so I understand the cost difference. I'm sure the installation would be included in that price. Hoping they make it out here today to measure to get this started. Getting the chase cover would be the final inspection to close out the permit on this ongoing saga of the chimney. What started as a routine cleaning last fall turned into a $15K nightmare that I just want over with.

You can also take measurements and go to a tin knocker and have them make one, there fast cheap and have a cad computer to get the measurements exact.

At that price I hope they are using Copper! I for one vote for going elsewhere, in NJ you should be able to find a sheetmetal company to do it no problem, that is who the chimney guys will sub it out to.

Come to Brooklyn with you measurements , if it's only a 2" deep cover , I can fabricate it for you ! SS COVER , around $350-$450 , send me a drawing of it.

Got the price back from the chimney guys and it is much cheaper than they originally estimated even with the install. $550 plus installation. I have no idea where they came up with that first price but glad it was a giant mistake. I knew it shouldn't be that much.
Chimney chase got scratch coated yesterday and the stone should be started tomorrow. And our chimney nightmare will finally come to an end!
