Call sweeps in your area and ask it varies allot. Ours are between 135 and 195 depending on what the setup and access is.

It will depend on your region but around here its about $150. Ive paid for it before on behalf of clients but I always do my own to save the money. It takes me about 40 minutes and then I can do it whenever I get itchy. Of course theres something to be said for having someone else climb up on your roof in the snow

I'm having mine swept as part of an installation, they're charging $100 for it. Maybe it would be more if they weren't already going to be here.
I think I paid $150 to get mine swept - with a 12/12 pitch on a 2-1/2 story colonial, I think it was a good deal.

Very effective although it does not hurt to have the chimney professionally cleaned every few years. One set is good for 18 ft; if you have more you buy another one and you will have a spare head. However, there are also enough people here who think an old-fashioned chimney brush works as well.
Is there a particular configuration of stovepipe, fittings, accessories and such that make cleaning from below as easy as possible?
Very effective and I have around 33' with an offset.
I purchased two full kits as that was cheaper than buying extra rods
I have an offset outlet box on the stove and a 22° offset in the attic. No problem to sweep bottom up just by removing the baffle from the stove.
I did the exact same thing buying two kits. Maybe it was your advice because I read it on these boards.

i don't know my roof grade but it isn't steep at all. I can get on it no problem with a 12 foot ladder. If i had a taller/steeper roof I would be having someone do it for me.
I had it done a couple times at 125$ but after watching him I got my own setup for 60$ and sweep my chimney 2x a year.

Lots of people just feel more comfortable having a pro do it. Some you have to go on the roof and some people wont or cant. Some people only have us out every few years to inspect things. There are lots of reasons i think most reasonably handy people can handle it themselves but some just dont want to.
No good acess from the bottom. Usually a masonry chimney with a tee at the bottom and cant make the bend. Also if there is allot of buildup i like to do it from the roof so i can see better.

To take an actual look down the flue to see whether it is really clean. Just relying on bottom-up sweeps with the soot-eater is a bit risky as you never know how well it actually cleaned everything. It also does not really clean the screen, checks the roof flashing, or the condition of the cap. About every 3 to 4 years I pay a sweep to make sure everything is alright.
