Ci2700 wood insert clearance requirements

I ordered at Regency ci2700 and had a mason prep the space. When the installer arrived, they said it won’t meet code as it needs 2 layers of brick around the entire insert. Is this true? See pictures below. The one shows the exposed wood beside the opening before the front was redone.

Yes it is absolutely true. And good job by your installer catching that.
