Cleaning the ash lip

Hello again guys.

Im done burning for the season. Swept the chimney, and took the top off of the Oslo and did a full cleaning. As can be understood, a lot of ash fell outta the front of the stove and has turned my ash lip a dirty dusty grey. Im not sure of how to clean it. Im sure its a silly question, but i dont want to mar the thing, or do something that may cause it to rust. Not like im gonna take a wire wheel to it, but dont wanna hurt it. Can i just wash it with water then use some stove polish on it? Is stove polish even necessary? Also wanna do a dusting of the rest of the stove. Im not gonna cover this beauty, but want it to look like a beauty.

Just use a wet rag and then another to try it immediately. Don't use stove polish, that stuff rubs off and makes more of a mess.

Like was mentioned, don't use stove polish. It's crap..
Just use a damp rag on it. If you want it to look new again, get a can of Flat Black Stove Bright paint. It's an exact match, same stuff Jotul uses. You can get it online or Your local hearth shop should have it.

Before you hit it with a wet rag you should try going over it with a good vacuum cleaner using the soft round bristle brush that many vacuum cleaners have as an accessory. After several passes you'll be surprised at how much of the ash you are able to remove. Then when you use the damp cloth you'll have less ash to turn into a wet mess that you have to clean off. As mentioned, it might well take several wipe downs to remove the remnants of the fine ash. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I will do a good vacuuming of it then do the wipe down. I was just worried about rust. First time with a stove, and with what i paid for it, i want it to look its best.

Then get a can of paint! Your gonna need it.
