What is the best product to use to clean the inside of the glass on a wood burning insert? I have tried soap and water only (don't want to scratch the glass), but can't get the tough stains off in the corners.

I use a razor blade and a wet paper towel with wood ash on it.

Some wood ash on a damp paper towel works well on the tough stuff. Rutland makes a stove glass cleaner that is pretty good too. One bottle will last for years.
