Clearing land making firewood.

My wife and I bought a new house back in September that's on a very wooded lot. I can almost reach outside and touch large oak/maple trees.

So in the process of making a back yard I'm also stocking up my wood pile.



Here's some pics. That's what you all came for.

What kind of wood is that?

Mostly maple and oak. There's a few pine trees here and there that aren't pictured.

How much ground do you have there? You should be making maple syrup if you have any sugar maples, the ones I see in the pics are reds by the looks of them. Nothing like making good useable fuel right out of your own backyard, is there?

That's a real nicely wooded area in the pic's. My in-laws had a place in Lincoln, but most of their forest was softer pines, unlike the good dense species you have. Good pic's!

My property is on 4 acres. Behind me there is over 100 acres that is owned by the state. I don't have much interest in making syrup right now but it might be a good idea down the road.

I'm in Warren. It's about 10 miles inland from Rockland.

Welcome to the forum Snotrocket. It is nice to have the wood so close. Now you need to get those rounds split so they can dry over the warmer months. They won't dry much in the round.

Haha I'm trying not to. I've got a couple real good leaners right over the house to.

I'm clearing behind them all so I can get my truck and some rope to pull them over away from the house.

There are two that I'm seriously considering having a tree service drop for me.

Got around to getting some rounds split up today. There's probably 4 cords here once it's all stacked out. I have 1 more good sized pile to split tomorrow.

Very nice man. You are well on your way to a very nice pile. Just spent a few days in the woods on my son's 5fth grade trip and one of the activity was maple syrup processing. Now I have a better appreciation of why good syrup can be so expensive. It takes a great deal of sap to cook one gallon of syrup.
