I've had a Clydesdale for about two months. Everything I start a fire it is nearly impossible to keep the temperature below the too hot range. It's not overloaded and the air control is closed. What am I doing wrong? Worried about leaving it overnight and don't feel comfortable loading it up for a night burn. I put a magnet temp on the front and it's about 290. Any advice is greatly welcomed. See pics

That is not too hot on the stove door.. The red zone is the normal operating temperature range. I can't make out the cat thermometer reading. What does it say?

It says too hot
If the insert is new then the cat is going to run hot for the first handful of fires. The gauge on the front (not sure if the location is correct) says it's in the "normal burning ragen" (red portion of the gauge).

Thanks, the gauge on the front is just a magnet style that I bought online for a reference. I'll keep burning for a while to see if the temp settles down. I've only run 5 or 6 burns so far but winter is almost here.
