Figured that I would share what I have found very helpful. have a hearthstone heritage with outside chimmeny (no insulated chase). with relatively good insulation. So we know that all of the above factors can make for poor draft with cold start. Have tried every single option. super-cedar with dry kindling, fat wood, duraflame firestarters. Believe it or not, the enviro-log (made from recycled cardboard) works the best. Lights relatively easy. Full flames in 15 minutes. Plus with the amount of heat they put out, no need for small kindlin. can put regular size pieces on. All wal-marts carry them. with a case of 6-5pd logs for 10 bucks. Give as much heat as pres-to logs with relative ease of lighting.
