Question:
I visited a local showroom the other day. They said that even though the Avalon 1190 has a bigger fire box, the difference between the BTU output of the Avalon 1190 vs. the 990/945 was minimal. They also suggested that the 945 would provide more radiant heat because it extends farther out onto the hearth. The 945 would also provide a larger cooking ledge. Do you feel the smaller 945 would be adequate?
Answer:
It's true that it provides as much heat as the larger one and more cooking area. The only downside is less wood capacity and therefore a shorter burn time. If you can live with this, it would be a great stove - probably one of my favorite stoves of all time.
(Note: The names and model number of these Avalon stoves have changed)
