Connecting double wall stove pipe to 6" outlet

Hi guys. Posted this question in the furnace room but not too much traffic. I've swapped out my hotblast for the drolet heatmax. Heatmax has 6" outlet with 3 holes in it for fasteners. Question is how do I connect this to my double wall stove pipe. On hotblast outer pipe and inner pipe fit over and under the outlet respectively nice and tight. However when I try to use the same 6" dsp elbow on the outlet of the drolet heatmax it's not tight at all and very sloppy. Wondering if there's an adapter of some sort I need. Mods please don't bump this to furnace forum as I've already tried there and they recommended I post here.

Most dsp companies have their own brand specific (Selkirk to selkirk) "collar" that will allow it to fit your stove.
Not sure what brand pipe you have or how your specific stove is set up but I know they these collars for what sounds like just your reason. Some stoves need em and some don't.

It is Selkirk 6" It's just the connection from the elbow to the units outlet that's the issue.

Just go to amazon and search for selkirk double wall stove pipe adaptor. Comes up first on the list.
There's three screw holes in the collar, I just put it on and the screw kinda hold it plus mines vertical and I don't have any sliding pipe sonics wedged in pretty good.
I do recall reading on here that people have used furnace or stove cement to set them on place as well, although I'm not sure as to whether or not that is considered to be the right way.

Right or wrong I used door gasket material to take up the gap. I wouldn't use stove cement because it gets hard and brittle. I had the same problem as you.

So even with the adapter is there still a sloppy fit?

I don't understand your question. I think I used 3/8 stove gasket and it made for a real tight fit. No slop.

One stove I had, no adapter was needed. Nice tight taper fit. Current stove required the adapter, it was really sloppywithout it but the adapter was bigger and filled it right up. You can buy the adapters with a key damper preinstalled or not. Remember that double wall parts are brand specific so stick with your brand.

You might also run into the problem where the screw holes into the Drolet collar are covered by the outer wall of the double wall pipe. I've never been able to access those screw locations with double wall so I've never screwed the pipe to the stove when using double wall. Always passed inspection. Yours being a horizontal outlet I'd be more concerned about the lack of attachment screws.

Well I guess I will get the adapter and hope that it fits right. I'll do some measuring and checking tm.
That or I'm sure I can just call my local hearth shop and let them deal with it. I just despise hiring contractors if I can at all avoid.
