Question:

I am in the process of building a hearth for my new woodstove. We are putting the hearth on a hardwood floor. We are putting the cement board on top of plywood and ceramic tile upon that. Is that enough protection?

Answer:

Each stove is different in hearth requirements. The heart you suggest would do for many stoves, especially if the leg length is over 7". If you want to be more certain, you can do a few things:

1. Double up on the cement board
2. Put sheet metal under the cement board.
