Feeling the Heat

Called a CL post for an ad listing some free hard maple this morning... Turned into a massive score!! I took my truck out and there were 4 guys waiting to load my truck up! Got it stuffed and they asked if I'd be back for another load, I told them I won't be able to come back bc I have a few jobs to do today. They asked where I live and I told them 10 min away so they offered to drop the rest off for me!!! They loaded there truck up and followed me home. I showed him where to dump the wood and he said he'd drop off a few more for me. I gave him a $20 for his time and thanked him. Went to work and hoped for the best! Came home and holy cow he hooked me up!!! I started moving my stacks around and he showed up with another full load for me!! I helped him unload and he told me this was the 7th truck load he has dropped off for me!!! I gave him a coke and another $20 and he said he'd keep me in mind next time he's in the area! Looks like I have some work to do now!! I know some of it is sugar maple but I'm not sure what the really big rounds are. They said it is not a hard wood but that it would burn well. You guys have any ideas?

Looks like a mix if sugar/black maple and silver maple. No doubt anyone of us would love to have that dropped off and I'd gladly pay 40 bucks and a coke for it.

Damm lucky you..................................... Lol

Nice score!

I feel bad taking wood from people when near the curb and all cut up like that.... I guess this shows me I shouldn't feel so bad? I'm actually helping someone out? TNks

It's funny too bc I've been reading about all the scores from you guys lately and I hadn't been able to get wood in a while. Missed out on several free CL posts and even drove 20 min one day for some just to find it all gone by the time I got there. This was very welcoming for a change. The fun part will be when I try to maneuver those big arse pieces to split them!!!

This actually wasn't sitting wood, a local tree company was taking down 4 trees in my neighborhood and the owner didn't want the wood. The tree company posted the add bc they were getting paid to remove it and they didn't want it. After talking to the guy I found out I was doing them a favor bc they were going to have to drive it all to a dump site 30 min away if I didn't take it! It's a win win so I don't feel too bad.

Hot....cold.....
I got 2 hot loads in 3 days, you never know what you will get, but we all need to keep our eyes open, and keep learning and keep helping each other out. Thank you all and gl...

Sorry, I didn't mean for you to think what I've been going though, I meant you were helping by taking away.... I just want to feel same way, when I take and don't actually know

Ah I gotcha. Yea it's not the same but wood is wood.

Big ones look like Silver.... But that is Fine wood and will be ready by this season if you split it now.

I split my Silver Large (6x6 and 8x8). Sugar will take longer. But all good wood you have there. :)

Will they deliver to another Ohioan! LOL ;lol

Great score!
Strong boys to lift the big rounds on the truck !

Big one looks like a soft maple, still considered a hard wood. & a good fire wood for sure ;)

Pics of split wood, or it didn't happen; Those could be plastic buckets covered with bark, with a thin cookie of end grain glued to the bottom of the bucket. ;lol Just kidding....super score! Split pics might help with ID, though. I wonder if it might be Norway Maple...but I haven't seen any so no firsthand ID help from me.

Yup great score, looks exactly like the silver maple I have in my yard.

that is a nice score but like Woody said , if we don't see the split and stacked results then we should assume it will rot where it lays;)

Don't you worry guys, ill be posting the split and stacked pics in the next couple weeks.

You definitely saved them a bundle, both in time and tipping fees. It is nice having the tree guys working for you.

Yea no doubt! After I gave him the last $20 and a coke he said he has my number and he will keep me in mind next time they have to get rid of some wood. I could get use to this!!
