CSL logs w/ stainless chimney?

Anyone know if CSL brand chimney sweep logs can be used with stainless steel chimneys? I have an RSF OpelII with about 23 feet of stainless steel ICC chimney. Nothing said on package warning against use with stainless.

You would be better burning the money than buying those gimmicks chimney cleaners. Nothing replaces a true sweep.

Some folks use those type things and I don't see where they would do any damage. However, you would be better advised to burn good dry wood and then you don't need them nor do you have to clean the chimney very often at all. We've cleaned our chimney once in the last 3 years and only got maybe a cup of soot from it and no creosote.

So my suggestion is if you are going to heat with wood, get the best fuel....just like you would in your car. Would you buy second rate fuel and expect the car to run right? Buy good fuel and you have good performance. Just remember, oil or gas you can burn right away. Wood needs time after splitting to dry properly. Burn that dry wood and you'll enjoy more heat from the same amount of wood and won't have to worry about the creosote problems.

There should be no adverse effects on the stainless. The intent of those things were to chemically alter the gooey, sticky type creosote into a hardened, less volatile substance that can then be swept away. They are NOT intended to replace a chimney cleaning. That being said - as Dennis stated - if your burning correctly you won't have that stuff to deal with in the first place.

We've swept many chimneys where the Chimney Sweeping Logs and similar products have been used, and have not found any ill effects on the stainless or terra cotta liners. We have also not observed enough affect on the creosote buildup to warrant the expense of these products.
