I'm not a fan of the blahness of the one size fits all surrounds. Add on the fact that my hearth is large round and unflat rock, there was no way I was going to put that up then look at all the gaps between it and the rocks.
I ran the first 2 yrs without one and didn't really mind it but it felt unfinished. Late last year the light bulb popped on. I'm all about the rustic vibe and I think this fits the bill. I've got about 1/4" gap on the top but you can't tell. Then on the sides it actually fits tightly against the rocks. So if I need to remove it all I do is tip it out and up..
