while cleaning the flue last week I severely damaged the damper plate gasket. Is the insulation/cotton looking material between top of rear firebricks and damper plate.
1. Should this be repaired prior to any burning?
2. Should be repaired at all this season?
3. Affect my ability to get quality secondary burns by heat loss?
4. If repaired, how do I adhere to the surface it attaches to?
