while cleaning the flue last week I severely damaged the damper plate gasket. Is the insulation/cotton looking material between top of rear firebricks and damper plate.

1. Should this be repaired prior to any burning?
2. Should be repaired at all this season?
3. Affect my ability to get quality secondary burns by heat loss?
4. If repaired, how do I adhere to the surface it attaches to?

Sounds like it needs fixing, but what stove is this? Can you add that to your signature line?

The gasket is made from ceramic wool. I don’t see any need to stop burning for a replacement. Order the gasket and have it ready, pull the baffle down and replace it on a warm day.
