I ordered a nc30 from Home Depot for $899. I know it's gonna pop on sale soon but I need a stove now. They promised me the sale price (refund) as long as it's in 90 days. My local Menards has the drolet myriad in stock and on sale for $709! That's $189 less. I believe they are comparable and either will work. It's going in a 30x48x12 tall pole barn. R19 walls and R38 ceiling. It's really sealed pretty tight. What's a guy to do. I had my heart set on the englander but that's a great deal on the drolet...just not sure about the drolet. I know the englander has such a cult following

I bought my 30 because I found it one year used and knew it wasn't overheated as it was installed in a single wide trailer and they spent the winter with the windows open even though they ran the stove so low if was absolutely plastered inside with creosote on everything. Also came with an extra set of baffle boards.
Really like it, but if any other brand stove had been in the same situation, and as good a deal, that's what I'd be running.
If you get a good deal on a stove, and end up not liking it, it's not really a loss to sell it and try something else.

Both are good wood stoves. Go where your instincts tell you. But $189 over the life of a stove spreads out pretty thin. One concern I have with the Myriad is that stainless steel baffle isn't removable or replaceable unless I have missed something. If for sure still isn't in the replacement parts list.
That is true on the baffle..but it is a pretty heavy piece of stainless. tge solid stainless baffle was one of the parts I loved...very well made. I'm probably splitting hairs as I'm sure ill be fine with either stove....I have actually pulled the reins way back as i was almost ready to pull the trigger on an ideal steel but considering it's going in my shop I thought it was kinda pricey for that. I have a progress hybrid in the house and absolutely loooove it. My shop currently has an old 1537 hot blast furnace that eats wood like crazy and heats it well, but I'm so used to the progress that I'm having a hard time liking the furnace....I much prefer that radiant heat and would rather not have to run a blower
I wanted a Drolet, but I couldn't catch it on sale when I needed it. I like their stainless steel baffle design. I'm happy with the 30 though.
Maybe I just need to be patient and wait the two weeks on the nc30, but the $189 savings and a stove on the shelf sure is tempting! I think I may run down and get another look at it...I haven't seen the englander in person yet. I went for it due to its solid reviews. The myriad seems nice as well but just haven't been able to find a 10th of the reviews on it.
That's the answer I was looking for! Either should be sufficient then. What are the philosophical differences? Are you mainly speaking of the stainless vs the tubes and ceramic for baffles? My last concern or should I say thing I noticed the other day on the drolet was the side fire bricks just sat in there. They were basically counting on the bottom row to hold them in place. I thought I saw a pic of the englander that looked like their brick was held in place by a lip. I try to be careful but my 16 year old isn't always

pretty much what you mentioned. the baffles are part of it , firebox shape is another, kinda "ford chevy" so to speak.

Late last winter I waited and waited and waited for the 30 to go on sale at Canadian Tire, and then the Austral went on sale last spring. I had a good look at the Austral "in person" and then had a good look at the 30 "in person," and after about 3 days of dithering I went with the Austral. I was a little unnerved by some comments regarding the fixed baffle, but man it's one solid piece of stainless, and the welding throughout on the unit is clean and smooth; the stove top is also 5/16" plate steel (a wee bit thicker than the 30).... so the quality of the workmanship, the solid build, and the positive reviews from most anyone who's run one (except for one feller that never owned one....), all that convinced me to get the drolet.
I've been heating from the basement with it since late last spring and it has been awesome for me, no complaints whatsoever. Whatever they did with the primary/secondary air control mechanism, all I can say is that the user has got great control over this stove, and it just throws the heat like nobody's business. The bricks have never budged a speck that I can see, nor cracked, and you know that I'm never going to damage that stainless steel baffle by whacking it by mistake with a piece of wood..... So that's my experience thus far. But having said all that, I really really (like sincerely really) did want to get the 30, and I still feel a bit dejected when I see it go on sale now at Canadian Tire……

Dang it Chuck, now ya got me wanting to test drive one of them thangs.
On the 5/16" versus 1/4" top plate. All of them do that. On flat tops they use 5/16" and on step tops they use 1/4". The step bend gives the same warping resistance.

More on the comparison thing, there's one thing I can't remember; does the 30 have the bricks going half way up the wall of the stove similar to the Austral, or do they go right up to the top on the 30? I'm assuming that such a difference would impact how the stove throws heat?
A flippin basement full of them. One brand new 30 that has never had a fire in it.
Inventory: Jotul F3 CB, Jotul F100, two 30-NCs, 25-PDVC pellet stove and a new Jotul GF300 gas stove still in the crate. I got over the disease but before I did they kinda followed me home.
At least I sold the 20 foot trailer load of Jotul gas stoves.
