I am considering an additional cookstove for the family room which of course will double as a heater in the winter. Almost everyone I have seen have oval flues.

Do any members have any experience with using wood or coal cookstoves, such as the "Kitchen Queen" for example?

Are there any brands I should run from or problems to anticipate?

Thank you very much.

How large a stove do you want? The Esse Ironheart has a 6" round flue.

There is also the LaNordica Rosa. Also checkout the de Manicor Domino.

Obidiahs sells all of these stoves and should be able to answer most questions about them.

If the stove top is just for occasional cooking and an oven isn't needed then there are a number of stoves that will fit this need and can do a better job at even space heating. The PE Alderlea with swing away trivets works well for stove top cooking. The Jotul F50 has a winter grille option for grilling in the stove.

I lust over those Esse's. Wish I had a good spot for one, but I need heat more than cooking, in all the locations with available flues.

We installed an esse and it is an amazing cook stove but not a good heater. And the price is really high also

If you can find one, a Jotul 404 fits in anywhere
