I decided because it is so cold here, to run the stove using the damper on the stove pipe, and this morning I can say it is 69 inside and 6 degress outside. My stove is running hot, but I am using more wood. Stayed up all nite just feeding the stove. I have a good bed of coals going, but I know when I leave for work, and use the damper on the stove, when I get home it will be on 400. I haven't mentioned that when using the damper on the stove, we are having to clean the chimney and stove pipe every month. It was smoking so bad, smoke coming out everywhere, we let the fire die out and cleaned the chimney and pipe, and it was full of cresote. We would have had a chimney fire, which is why, we are using the damper on the stove pipe, burn baby burn.

Basically you are using the stove like an old pre-EPA smoke dragon, which is better than nothing. But if you can't get the afterburner cleaned out and working, I'd trade that stove in.
