Dehumidifiers

Can anyone recommend a small electric
Dehumidifier?

(I know, light up the woodstove, but it's not cold enough yet.)

I am on Amazon and I see names like
Ivation, Eva-dry and gurin but have no idea which ones to stay away from.

Looking for one that's less than 50 pints/day

I have a Danby but its a larger unit for my basement. I haven't had trouble in the 2 years I've owned it. Prior I had a GE which also worked well. It met its untimely demise in hurricane Irene. I guess it couldn't dehumidify 7.5 feet of water. After the flood was gone I did let it sit in the sun a few weeks and when I plugged it in it still worked, but I junked it because I just cant trust an electrical item that has been submerged. Plus it was on, even underwater.

Check warranty terms. Mucho importante !

LG gives longer warranty terms on some components (compressor, sealed system), usually longer than Danby, etc.

I bought a GE at walmart, (just after hurricane Irene) haven't had an issue with it, it has clean outs, optional 2.5 gal holding tank, can be piped to an existing drain, quite, variable speed motor, easy controls and energy star rated.

I recently got a 70 pt GE for my basement, its been running nonstop for the past 2 weeks or so, hooked up to a hose drain going directly to the sump. Happy with it so far.

Frigidaire 70pt/day has been working hard for me for over 2 years.

Can't comment on it since I don't own it. My 70pt/day model does the job pretty darned well.

We've got a 30 pint SoleusAir that was an emergency purchase 3 summers ago (We had a perfectly working 50 pint Kenmore that we discovered was under a huge recall for fire hazard) and it's worked flawlessly and kept our finished basement habitable. We've got it connected to a hose for continuous drain, so no emptying the small container, just clean the filter every few weeks when the light comes on. It's due for a total teardown and cleaning this winter, but it runs 24/7 most of the summer and into fall. We set the humidity at 45 or 50%, but it's a bit undersized so rarely shuts off. Fairly quiet for what it is, the majority of the noise is from the fan running, although after 3 summers of continuous use, it does have an audible compressor noise. We have since picked up two more dehumidifiers, a very old (60's maybe?) Whirlpool 15 pint, that really works well, and very quietly but doesn't have a full pan shutoff so it's a chore running to the basement to empty it a couple times a day. I picked that one up at an estate sale for I think $5 because the fan was seized up, a good cleaning and oiling and it's now on its second summer. Actually bought it as a backup in case the new one died. The second one is a more modern Zenith brand 30 pint that I trash picked, it had a bad humidity control so wouldn't turn on, the control was discontinued so I just wired in a switch. Works well but is noisy. It's going in a garage sale next summer as we don't need 3 of the things!

Zenith is LG.

Lg used to be Goldstar. They morphed into LG, and bought the Zenith name.

Yeah, brand names mean nothing anymore. I bought a couple of Honeywell oil filled heaters just to discover that Honeywell had sold a license to use the name.

Which is hilarious because I used to get grief for buying Goldstar "crap" and now I get grief for not buying LG "quality"

I did know that and I also know LG doesn't mean quality. Wouldn't buy an LG appliance if it was free. Just overpriced chinese junk. Every major appliance in our house is American made (Well, except for the dehumidifier), and all work perfectly (1974 Maytag washer, 2000 Maytag dryer, 1961 Frigidaire stove, 1999 GE refrigerator, 1997 Maytag Dishwasher) Relatives have new LG kitchen appliances and hate them. Dishwasher takes 2 1/2 hours on Normal and doesn't clean dishes, Stove peeled paint off oven floor the first time it was self cleaned, and I don't remember the problem with the refrigerator. Friends have a different model LG dishwasher and have had nothing but problems with it. Almost half expect the Zenith Dehumidifier to lose it's coolant charge over the winter.

The ting is, there are only a few manufacturers that really make them. They are sold and just rebranded under ohter brand names, kinda like Sears appliances.

Alot of the parts a interchangeable.
