I have a luxaire air conditioner/heat pump with electric emergency heat grid and propane backup. It’s a 2 zone system and run through a Honeywell envirazone board about 16 years old. I’m looking to install Honeywell T5 smart thermostats to the system. Issue is the current thermostat has a 1,2,3 wiring pattern and the T5 are different than that. I got in touch with Honeywell tech support and they said not much other than I’d have to contact a hvac pro to have them installed…
I’m going to attach some pics of what I have to see if this can be done diy or it’s just not possible.

The one you have is some sort of network wiring like modbus?
The T5 does not have the old network parts from what I see.
There are people on here that could fab up something.
They put men on moon with a computer made from nand gates so anything is possible.

The thermostat wires are used as communication lines to the zone controller. It seems the system that Google group is talking about is much more complicated. Possibly a commercial installation. This isn’t computer controlled it’s just a circuit board not on a network.

I can see somehow replacing that whole motherboard with other another system. The board does have a very large chip on it and a com light. To me that means data communications.

You've been spied upon by big brother all these years!

This member would probably know what to do. Not sure if he knows this application, but he knows electronics.

Red to R. White to W. Green to G.
So that was a photo I’d found online of a same setup, I was posting from work yesterday. Here’s my actual current thermostat wiring.

It seems like colors are installers discretion. They just have to match up with the zone board.

Yes, it works fine but I would like to be able to monitor and change the thermostat while away. I picked up $100 Honeywell T5 WiFi thermostats for $14 after energizeCT rebates. Here is a pic of the current stat:

The Honeywell EnviraZone (W8835) is a wired zoning panel system that does not have built-in Wi-Fi, but it can be enabled for remote control and Wi-Fi connectivity using specific accessories. To bring a, EnviraZone system online, you typically use a RedLINK Internet Gateway to connect the thermostats to the internet.
Here are the key components for enabling Wi-Fi on an EnviraZone system:
  • EnviraZone Panel (W8835A1004): The core 3-zone control panel that manages dampers and HVAC equipment.
  • RedLINK Internet Gateway (THM6000R7001): This device plugs into your router and allows RedLINK-enabled thermostats connected to the EnviraZone system to communicate with the Total Connect Comfort app.
  • Compatible Thermostats: The system works with RedLINK-enabled thermostats like the VisionPRO IAQ or FocusPRO.
How to Enable Wi-Fi:
  1. Verify Compatibility: Ensure your current thermostats are RedLINK-enabled.
  2. Install the Gateway: Plug the THM6000R7001 Gateway into your home router.
  3. Link Devices: Use the "Wireless Device Manager" on your thermostat to pair it with the Internet Gateway.
  4. Register: Register the system on the mytotalconnectcomfort.com website using the MAC ID and CRC code found on the back of the gateway.
Alternative/Replacement Option:
For a modern, built-in Wi-Fi solution, users often upgrade to a TrueZONE HZ432 panel, which can be paired with wireless adapters to control zones without running new wires and supports easier internet integration.

I’m confused, pic 8427 is the board that your thermostat normally hooks to. It even has thermostat wire attached to it. What is that going to?

Zone controller. Thermostat wires connect to zone controller.

Looks like red and white control each zone.

The furnace. The thermostats just run 3 wires which go to the zone board seen in pic 8428.

Hey, my Honeywell looks just like yours! I only need red and white though. I only have heat attached to it.

See if there’s power going to that wire when there’s no call for heat. The little flap suggests it might go to C.

I have heat and ac. Heat is heat pump until about 25 degrees then it switches over to propane, it also has emergency electric strip heat. I think the compressor is 2 stages. I don’t have batteries in the thermostat so maybe 3rd wire is “c” to power?
