All the debate over outside air kits brings up another question. Do any of you use your wood stove to supply domestic hot water? I found several do-it-yourself articles as well as the therma-coil. I really like the idea of having hot water without using our electric water heater but I really dislike the idea of drilling holes into my stove. I'd like to hear from some one who has actually done this or who has found another way to get domestic hot water from a wood stove. My plumbing skills are limited.

Smokin is doing it with his furnace. It's a Hotblast, I think. Great big firebox, and sends a fair amount of heat up the chimney. I'm not sure how it would work with a small EPA stove.

I thought about this some time ago as well. I have room behind my insert. I thought maybe I could just run pipes/tubing past the back of the stove to heat the water going into the boiler to help maintain temperature, but I never pursued it. Good luck!
