downdrafting

Hi guys. Another newbie here. I finally got my Avalon Arbor. Went through the 3 fire breakin and the headache producing curing paint oder. I understand it is a downdraft from searching this forum, the salesman didn't mention anything about how hard it would be getting the downdraft started or if it was easy to set or forget as it is with the cat models.
I've got the bypass closed and the air control closed. I do hear a draft running through the stove not very loud. No flames or very little blue flames not rolling. Started with alot of glowing coals. Looked outside at chimney with flashlight very little smoke I think, dark outside. Is this in the process of downdrafting?

im not sure what your asking are u asking about suction? when u light a fire does it light easy? or is it a struggle? what is the pipe set up? is it a stright up and out of house or a few turns in pipe? i know that will affect suction. i have herd of some people using a hair dryer to heat up flu to get the suction going, im sure a expert will chime in son.

Downdrafting is another word for a type of secondary combustion where the smoke is pulled down through the fire and coals into the superheated refactory chamber in the lower back of the firebox, then exits out the exhaust. Some other people with these type of stoves can here a slight rumble noise when this is going on. If you have no smoke out your chimney, I believe secondary combustion is taking place.

Try to ignite the secondary combustion again today but failed. Didn't think these kind of stoves were that much work. Should have done my homework first.
Re the name : Always liked to mess around with fire when I was a kid, been called a firebug many times. Didn't know there was another on this board, i can always change mine.

Type in "everburn" in the search engine here and you will learn more info on your type of stove. It seems some people have had problems maintaining secondary combustion, especially on warmer days. Also many have stated the need for a large coal bed packed by the shoe.
