Hey folks. I'm nearly done installing our BK SC30. Chimney is 6" DuraTech double wall and stove pipe is 6" DVL . From the stove I have the adapter and then a 68" telescoping pipe. In the picture, you can see the 6" chimney adaptor w/trim(SD 6DVL-ADC), there isn't a pipe that will come down over the outer skin of the top of the telescoping pipe. Northline Express videos show that the telescoping pipe goes up into the chimney adaptor and gets 3 screws. I feel like I'm missing a part.

Here is the link to the adaptor. The picture in this link doesn't show an outer pipe. If this is correct, how do you attach the DVL? https://www.northlineexpress.com/6-dvl-close-clearance-adapter-6dvl-adc-6730.html

Here's pictures of my install so far.

There are two options for connecting the DVL. One has the trim ring 6DVL-ADT and the other 6DVL-ADC does not.

The DVL adapter has a slightly larger end that is 6 1/8" ID, this goes into the support box. The other end is 6" and that slips into the DVL stovepipe. Pre-drill the holes before screwing the pipe into the adapter.

Thank you for the explanation. I think I would feel better about the 6DVL-ADT so the screws wouldn't have to penetrate the inner most layer of the pipe. If I'm understanding you correctly, with the 6DVL-ADC, I simply raise the stove pipe up, drill pilot holes through the telescoping pipe and into the adaptor.

I wonder why they make two different ones?

The install with the ADC adapter, where does the hot air in the insulated cavity of the double wall stove pipe terminate? up against the bottom of the trim ring?

Does duravent not still sell this adapter? Screws to the ceiling support box and then your telescopic piece bolts right to it as though it were a short piece of double wall.

The sticker calls the adapter part #6dvl-adt.

My installer left couple weeks ago and my install looks like this:

DVL up to a snap lock connecter in the ceiling support box.. he said it was fine. I am sure the inside is fine. I was concerned the ceiling support box would get hotter than it should since the air in the insulated cavity of the DVL will be funneled to the bottom of the celling support box area, but he said its fine and would come back with a decorative trim cover??

Doesn’t look right to me.

Sometimes professional installers try to “make it work” with parts they have on the truck.

Thanks. I know looks funny. Do you know, in the DVL connection you have, does the air in the outside insulated cavity of the stove pipe continue up into the insulated cavity of the chimney, or does it terminate against ceiling box connector ring.

I don’t remember what the inside of that adapter looks like but I am confident that using compatible parts from the same manufacturer as intended will be safe enough for me. Vented or unvented.

That air space would provide insulation whether it is vented or unvented. Vented seems like it would be better. I used an unvented air space for insulation inside my last hearth to meet a particular r-value.

In your shoes, I would call duravent and explain the situation. They can tell you whether the single wall tailpiece is part of their double wall system. I prefer the appropriate adapter. You’ll have the manufacturer’s guidance to argue with your contractor.

I believe the hot air will continue through the double wall pipe above the ADC adapter. At least that's how ours is. Double wall all the way from stove to chimney cap. I did our install but this was close to 3 years ago. Let me know if you don't find the answer. I think I used the info on the DuraVent website.
