I'm installing (with help from a contractor) a new vermont castings Encore wood stove. The chimney (Duravent DVL) has been installed and actually used temporarily with another stove while building. We went to install the new DVL from the stove to the chimney box (not sure what you call it) I have all the piping brand new it came with the stove. However, the adaptor piece that attaches to the stove fit's very loosly. It seems to be the wrong diameter. I think it's a Duravent 6DVL-AD. I looked online and it's bottom diameter is only 5.625 inches wide. Is this supposed to be tapered so it will fit tight? Unfortunately I'm not where the stove is so it's possible for me to double check. Maybe it was just a short piece of DVL pipe I'm not sure. I thought this would be easy so I didn't bother to bring the parts back from the cabin to my house which is over 200 miles away. Thanks in advance for any help

The DVL adapter is poor fitting to most stoves. Try fitting the pipe directly to the flue collar with no adapter.

Pretty sure that will not work as the sections slide upward not downward and the Encore has screw holes that would be used to tighten a section that would go inside not on the outside of the stove.

If the DVL is installed in the correct direction then the inside crimp may fit inside the flue collar while the outside layer of the DVL goes outside of the collar's rim. Ignore the screw holes on the flue collar. Most likely new ones will need to be drilled to line up with the 3 on the stove pipe.

I don't have an Encore to test on, but this is the way DVL works on several other stoves.

I had a little help from Duravent and I think the problem is that there is not a problem. I think my supplier purchased a stove pipe kit that included the adapter (DVL6-AD) which isn't needed. I believe the stove pipe should fit directly into the collar without an adapter. I will let you know and I look forward to the first test burn.
