New to the forum and looking to set up a free standing stove in my house. Currently waiting to close on the house, but once I do I'm looking to redo some things.

I was looking at the 17-vl but heard it was discontinued. Is there anything equivalent to it in price and efficiency?

We watched the 17-VL being born here as it was designed by H.com member Corey. It was a great small heater that was also an exceptional value. There are similar designs but at a greater cost. The Drolet Deco Nano is a bit larger and probably the closest.

True North TN10 is a tad smaller.
12" splits can be a PITA for some.
It's basically a short TN20.

Is the drolet deco nano available in the USA?

I like that TN10. What's the square footage it's supposed to cover? Have an 800 sqft house with a cathedral ceiling(chalet).

I would consider those small stoves a room heater. 800 sqft is small, but would still be taxing to those little stoves. And remember that the harder you run them, the shorter the burn time.

The Summer's Heat 2000 sq ft is twice the size of the VL-17 and it needs ember protection, just not an insulated hearth. The TN-10 would be much closer in size to the VL-17. The Century FW2800 is about $800 and a little smaller than the Summer's Heat stove you linked to. That would probably work too. The TN-20 is the same size, but has a square firebox which is nice.

I would look for a small cat stove. Used Woodstock fireviews pop up every burn season for $1000-1500. Loading a small non cat stove every 3-4 hours gets old fast.
