Hello,

I recently happened upon a opportunity to get a Englander 25-pdv pellet stove for free. They mentioned that either the combustion motor or vacuum switch was probably bad, As it turns out I happen to own the same model and have some spare parts for testing and such.

While troubleshooting, I put this stove into diagnostics mode and I was able to successfully test the room blower and two auger motors (vacuum sensor had to be jumped for top auger). The issue I am running into is with the combustion motor.

When I try to power up the combustion motor it just gives a humming sound and won't spin up (not in housing at the time)...so I figure ok maybe it is bad. I put another known good combustion motor on and get the same thing. As another test...I pull both combustion motors and try in my good stove and they both spin up just fine.

Any thoughts to what would cause this behavior or further troubleshooting steps? I think I will put a meter on this in the morning to check voltages but otherwise I can only think that this is a problem with the control board. I've seen them in the past but nothing quite like this.

Any insights or suggestions would be appreciated.

Low power comming from the board. I have the same issue with my upper auger. Traced it back to the software side of the prom in the control board.

Dumb question....but is there anything that can be done aside from replacing the control board in this case?

Depends on your experiance with a multi meter, resistors, triac's, ic chips, how good your soldering skills are. I have ordered my prom from englander stoves and my triac's from mouser and i will repair my own. Now it took me a week of tracing the circuits to find out what went wrong. But i find it interesting and a great hobbie that doesn't cost an arm and leg

So I pulled a working control board from my other stove and tried it on this stove....everything worked as expected. As for fixing it...I am comfortable using a multi meter and I can soldier fairly well. Unfortunately, tracing down the components I don't have much experience with.

I may investigate further to see if I can actually fix the board. I'm not out much if I don't succeed :)

In either case... thank you for your help.
