Englander on Sale? When?

Howdy. Talked myself into an Englander 13 for my soon to be completed basement. My local HD has it for $739! Holy cow! When do these little darlings go on sale? Any ideas? I notice the electric stoves are 40% off now. Do wood burning stoves follow suit? Sure hope so! Any suggestions?

As we get closer to the end of the season and Homey-Depot wants to make room for lawn and garden stuff, they'll mark them down.

Keep your eye on craigslist in your area. I bought my 30-NC brand new from a guy on craigslist for about half price.

If anyone is in the central Ohio area, I just happened to look on the craigslist for my area and found this: (broken link removed to http://columbus.craigslist.org/hsh/565385423.html)

It doesn't say what the stove is, but the 2,200 sqft rating is what the 30-NC is rated. It makes me wonder if that's not what it is. If anyone is looking in this area, drop the guy a line and see! looks like a good deal.

my local home depot had the model 13 and 12 on sale $100 off last Sunday.
The model 30 wood and 25 (whatever it is) pellet stoves were $200.00 off.

I was hoping for Lowes clearance prices.

There were gas or electric stoves inthe mix, too. I didn't look at those.


Odd thing: the model 12 was called a 13, but didn't have the vent control above the door.
It was 1,000 sq feet, though (what I call 12) and eith 479.00 or 499.00
(my wallet balked)

Cyndra, wait and shop around. I bought our 30-NC for $500 with a blower used from craigslist. The 13 will go on sale eventually, and even at $739, it's still one of the most affordable, quality stoves out there.

Thanks to you who offered some help and ideas. I followed the link provided by one post, it was for a Century, not an Englander and I'm really trying to wait for a good price on an Englander. I expect I'll be needed their highly praised customer service!

I am trying to figure out why, if the stove is on the floor in the HD store, they are charging you the "with freight included" price for the stove. The 13-NC stoves on the floor at HD here are $599 and have been from the day they arrived. The only ones I have seen at the price your HD is asking were if you special ordered them over the Internet and then they included the freight in the price.

I'm wonder the same thing! I may have to go down there and raise a little cane. I'd be tickled with $599, and even more so if I found it at that price and then on "clearance"! Thanks for letting me know your pricing there in VA. Gives me something to work with.

I picked a 13 up at the Home Depot after getting the 12 and taking it back because of corrys recomendation HERE.

That ceramic baffle board in it seems like it might not last long so here is my question;
How long will it last?................
The Lopi Republic looks to be a lot like the Englander 13 but has a metal baffle and seems beefier built, but it it really? or any better?

The Lopi looks to have double wall sides....at least from the pics. And the arch door(s).
The Englander has an ash pan, and I don't think the Lopi does. Both stoves are made for the tighter budget...Lopi is exclusive through dealers and Englander does most business through big box stoves and hardware...although they do have specialty dealers (like Lopi) in some areas.

For "heat for the money", it's hard to beat the 13 on sale, etc. - that is really not the main market that Lopi is in. They are more high end, with this model (Republic) just trying to get some of the budget customers in the door.

Up until a few years ago, the wood stove industry was pretty snobish and largely ignored the budget (value) buyer. Englander just sat back and kept serving that market. Now that people are burning wood to actually save money again (when oil was $1.50 this was tough to do), the value buyers are coming out of the wood work! It's great that there are options for folks who don't have 3K plus for a stove and installation....chimneys are a killer these days. I get sticker shock, and I was in the biz for 25+ years!

I replaced my Englander 13 with a Lopi Republic 1750. The 1750 heats much better and has a larger firebox. There are heatshields on the sides which make clearances very close. The ceramic baffle in the Englander did move around a bit but I can't attest to how long it would last. The Lopi has metal and fire brick as a baffle. The Lopi seems to be a bit nicer construction, but it is more "fit and finish" which I would expect from a stove that runs 50% more $$.

My Lopi ran me about $1200 which I think is a great deal for the stove. I paid $319 for the Englander last year at Home Depot. I would go with the Englander 13 rather than the smaller Republic 1250, but if you need a bit more heat go with the 1750. The Englander 30 is well liked at hearth.com but is very large and kind of ugly, which unfortunately was a factor for me, even on a budget! Englander should make a mid sized stove - I would have bought one
I had no problems with either stove and would recommend either one.

Unlikely as there is not much space. Also the stove was designed for the ceramic baffle and they are inexpensive to replace. The stove runs extremely well. Why mess it!

i'll tell ya the straight poop on the creamic baffles, we have only been using them for the last about 5 years , and we rarely have calls for them , and most of them are due to accidents , either loading wood, or taking them out to clean them and not being careful ,(they aint flexible , the tubes gotta come out) literally never do we get calls for replacement due to failure in use. granted though its early, 5 years isnt a long time, i myself will be interested to see how long before we get calls for "fair wear" replacements , but seriously they are holding up pretty darn well looking at the volume we have out there and the low ratio of calls for them.

Have you tried calling around to any lowes near you to see if there are any left. Granted, pretty doubtful at this point with 50% off, but hey it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the clarification Mike. I wasn't trying to put your stove in a negative light at all. I can imagine you get owners who try to pull the baffle out without removing the tubes thinking it shouldn't be there! Duh!
I loved mine 13 and I have no hesitation about recommending Enlgander to my friends who are looking for a stove. Keep up the good work!

My unit does have a couple of chunks gouged out of the top part where someone at home depot or ? gouged it up at the 6inch opening, like someome put there hand though the 6inch opening on top the stove....
