Has anyone tried fine-tuning their stove with an infrared thermometer?
I don't have access to a manometer or magnehelic gauge, so I'm using a laser style thermometer to compare the heat output on various trim settings.

I'm also wondering what would be considered 'normal' ash buildup on a small stove like this? The ashpan / burn pot are very small and I've been dumping the ash after every bag.

a manometer and magnehelic guages are used to set the draft/vacuum to get an efficient burn, not temperature. what your doing is great though, you will know what your stove will do. ash build up has way to many variables to be definitive on what is "your normal", as you burn you will see. pellets can vary from batch to batch.
