I got a major score starting last week off Craigslist! There was a post about lots of hardwood available. Got the address and it was only 5mi from my work. Showed up and they were clear cutting 1/2 acre of mostly oak and beech!

I first picked up the beech they started. I came back the next day they took down about 8 red oak, white oak, and chestnut oak trees. For two days I was cherry picking out the best 16-18" long white and chesnut oak logs to fill up my tacoma LB. I came back on Friday and they just took down a 36" dbh white oak but not bucked. I picked out another 1/2 load of WO. I came back yesterday and they had taked down 5 or 6 more. Grabbed a full load of chestnut (so much easier to split than white!) and had to say farewell.
My storage is way overfilled. I scrambled and got 5 more pallets, but I need them double stacked. The first 2.5 loads were split last weekend. I'm cutting them about 2x2" and crib stacking them so I might be able to start using a little by the end of the winter.

There is still tons of wood left. I did not start on any of the red oak. There is probably more than a cord piled up by the road/driveway and at least one more cord on the ground. They are still taking down more. They are mostly red oak, some WO, some beech, some B Birch? (no positive ID), some red maple. They said there is some hickory but I was not able to ID any. The pic attached has grown about 50% and there is another by the driveway about the same size. By the driveway there is are some logs that have shallow 'x' bark (brown x-section), with yellowish/greyish heartwood, smelled kind of fruity. No leaves with it so couldn't ID that either and skipped it for more WO.

PM and I can get you the contact. Located in New Canaan, CT. Bring your trailer and help clear out this nice hardwood!

Pics attached: 4 bed loads (you might notice a few maples snuck in there), 2 bed loads of WO splits, one of the remaining piles.

Same here. Thanks for the heads up though. Hope you can grab a ton of it

Sweetness on that score! ! !

About 2.5 tons to be exact ;)

I'm going to struggle to get everything split. I only managed to get away and get about 5 logs done today. They were the 3 nastiest ones though. I need to get all my maple and ash moved and split for this winter...Wish I could pick up more from the site...

Glad to see you found a good hook up. Fyi on stacking in the pick up, you can lay the 1st set of logs flat in the bed, then do a second stack with them standing up, this will keep them locked in while fitting more.

Hey Kenny,

It wasn't about the space...its the payload. My Tacoma is rated at 1100lbs. I weighed it out with a load of norway maple. It was about ten 16"x18" logs, which leaves about 14" to the tailgate. With a full layer of oak I was probably overloaded by a few hundred pounds.

Looking at getting the Ridgeline this year which can hold 1600.

I finished the rest of the WO yesterday while the moms were watching HBO. With the beech it must be at least a cord. Should be around 5,600lbs of green wood. (A few more logs added since the pic, and there's 12 more beech logs to go)
