I'm looking at getting a wood burning insert. I have a masonry fireplace which is about 28" tall x 35" wide x 23" deep. It has a heatilator type metal "shield" and vent things on the top and sides (see attached pic).
I have a 1200 sqft house, which is not very tight (although I'm slowly getting around to adding insulation in the walls and replacing the windows).
I want a flush insert because the fireplace is right next to the front door, and if anything stuck out into the room, you'd pretty much run right into it when you came in.
The Avalon Perfect-fit is a flush insert, and I like the style of the two doors. Most have a big honking handle that really detracts imho. It has a blower, which I like. It also has an option for "hard wiring" the blower, so you don't have a cord. The other Avalon stoves seem to get good reviews, but I haven't found much on the Perfect-Fit. My local fireplace shop has them in stock, for about $3000. Install is another $1500 or so. So about $5000 total. Does that seem reasonable?
Are there other flush inserts that you recommend?
Thanks all.
