I'm looking at getting a wood burning insert. I have a masonry fireplace which is about 28" tall x 35" wide x 23" deep. It has a heatilator type metal "shield" and vent things on the top and sides (see attached pic).

I have a 1200 sqft house, which is not very tight (although I'm slowly getting around to adding insulation in the walls and replacing the windows).

I want a flush insert because the fireplace is right next to the front door, and if anything stuck out into the room, you'd pretty much run right into it when you came in.

The Avalon Perfect-fit is a flush insert, and I like the style of the two doors. Most have a big honking handle that really detracts imho. It has a blower, which I like. It also has an option for "hard wiring" the blower, so you don't have a cord. The other Avalon stoves seem to get good reviews, but I haven't found much on the Perfect-Fit. My local fireplace shop has them in stock, for about $3000. Install is another $1500 or so. So about $5000 total. Does that seem reasonable?

Are there other flush inserts that you recommend?

Thanks all.

Great stove

I wanted the Lopi Declaration as well. Pretty much the same stove. I couldn't get it due to the size of my fireplace. Ended up with a Lopi Freedom with a flush kit so it only sticks out a few inches. If you're going with a Perfict-Fit, Declaration, or Elite, just make sure you measure for fireplace precisely before hand to make sure it will fit.

Here is a picture of my Declaration... Love its bigger (2.9cu') firebox for a flush stove!

edit: I paid 4300 installed with insulated liner. Maybe look around for a Lopi dealer and see if you can pick up the Declaration a little cheaper. They are the same stove both made by Travis Industries.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize they are the same stove. I'll do some more research on the Lopi.

Bubbvah, nice looking stove and set up. I'm definitely considering the Declaration. If you don't mind me asking, what dealer did you go through? The Lopi dealer near me was asking $3,900 for the Republic 1750. I'm sure he'd want more than the $4,200 you paid for the Declaration. Also, what size room is in the pic and how many sq. ft. is your house?
