I'd like to keep my room-mate's dog out of a certain part of the house. There is only one entrance to the room. I want to some how set things up so he receives an electric shock, once, when he enters the room; I think if it's a good healthy shock, he'll avoid the room from there on out. He is an extremely willful and headstrong dog (if you've ever had a terrier, that's all I need to tell you).
I've tried just connecting a piece of metal to 120VAC, but I don't want to kill the poor little feller - in case he somehow couldn't break contact - so I stayed nearby, ready to unplug the cord as soon as he got shocked. But he's too wily for that.
So I want to try using an electric fence charger. There are a couple of pretty cheap ones on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HHO9EE/?tag=hearthamazon-20
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D9U8MBW/?tag=hearthamazon-20
The first one says the output is continuous, so this seems like it could also potentially kill him.
I also wonder how to wire it up. It looks like fence chargers usually have one lead connected to a stake in the ground, and the other lead connected to the wire. Obviously that's not possible indoors.
Thanks for any suggestions.
