Now that my deer season is over I was able to find time to get back into the blacksmitty shop and pound on some things. Made a couple knives and this addition to my fire tool set. It works as designed but I am not sure I like it - or at least not sure how much it will get used as the rake I made last year seems to separate things nicely enough to get the job done. maybe when I need to get a little ash out this winter I can use this to save more coals?? Anyway - it is my prototype sifter shovel so don't mind the boogery welds. I had the gas hooked up to my other welder when I started tacking it up and didn't bother to fix the welds because it was only for me.

Ray - if you are ever travelling through Mid-Michigan give a shout and you can stop by for a cup of coffee and take this one home with you.

Do you normally have that many coals left? I don't seem to have anything left but ash. I could use a good rake though, they don't sell them around here. I was thinking about using the vise to convert an extra shovel into a rake.

What type of wood are you burning? Oak, cherry and locust leave coals..
