Before the Progress came out they told me they were actually in the works of turning the Fireview into a hybrid but ended up going with a larger stove.

There is nothing stopping one from putting a steel plate on top.

That's the one feature of the Progress that I'm super jealous of - I wouldn't cook on it very often, but a cookplate under the lift up top would be amazing. I wonder it they would make a retrofit kit? I'd be a bit worried about DIYing one into the space since the cat is right there - it would be nice to get the engineers who know how the whole thing works to sign off on it.
