We have had this stove for 3 or 4 yrs and have never over fired it.The cat is almost engaged then it goes quite hard,to the point where sometimes i have given up being afraid i'll bend something. The hotter the stove the harder to engage.I have vacuumed what i can away from the gasket.Any ideas?

I just read there is an adjustment.

Usually it gets loose to engage over time. Buy yes- there is an adjustment that is pretty simple to perform.

on year 3 with my Fireview. Hard too engage when cold better when its nice and hot on a reload. It's been that way since year 2.

I don't remember but think there's a screw and locknut on the bypass door arm where you can adjust how tight it cams down. Easy to get to on the Fv. You could also take the bypass door off and clean the ash out of the gasket real good...

Huh. Mine got a little harder if I got it hotter than normal on a ramp-up fire...
