So I have been reading about top down fires, who else uses this technique and how do you like it? How do you stack your starting setup? How long till you reload? Pictures of your setup before ignition would be great, thanks!

Top down fire is a complete waste of time! What the hell are these people thinking? With dry wood you may not have to tend to it for a bit, but it sure as hell ain't gonna warm the house! Yeah completely ridiculous!
Yep. Have used it for years. Love the way it cranks off with virtually no smoke. Works great in a BBQ too.

Works a treat with a piece of Super Cedar instead of the newspaper bows. But Hogwildz just loves making his paper bows and I wouldn't want to deprive him of that.

The beauty of top down is that anything that the heat cooks out of the splits below it has to pass through flame. Where it burns instead of going up the stack un-burned.

The conversion in the video is so spontaneous. You can tell they have been good friends for many years.
I can't believe this isn't a sticky. I would have never thought to build a fire this way. I honestly doubted it work work well. I watched that video and I just started a fire. Not only did it start easier it heated up the stove faster. why didn't I know about this sooner!
Yeah John is a noted expert on heating with wood and Vanessa owned stove shops for years and now owns a stove distribution company. The video never scored at Caan but the message gets delivered. And has gotten untold numbers of folks passing through here started with top down. Me included.
