Fisher double door model ID

Hi folks, just bought a rusty old fisher wood stove for $100 bucks. After restoreing it I'm trying to identify what model it is. Here are the specs.
Hight to high point. 27"
Hight to low point. 21"
Box Width. 26.25"
Box Depth. 20.375"
Top width. 27.625
Flue size. 8"
Front opening dim. 16.75w x 10 h
As yet I have not found one this size.
The grandpa is said to have a 29.5"wide top, The grandma a 25.5"top.
The door castings has a raised 3/4" circle w/ the letter (R) inside it.
Can anyone please tell me what model I have and approximately what it is worth.
It is in real fine condition. Thanks. Sj

Slightly oversize Grandma if that is your stove in your avatar. (it has Grandma doors)
Need better close ups along with doors open.
Legs look like they have been cut down? If they extend less than 6 inches below stove bottom it can only be used on a non-combustible surface such as cement floor or masonry hearth.
The Dunn Brothers (Va. and W. VA) made an extra large Fireplace Series - Don't know what 5665 means, these stoves were made internationally, so is this UK, Canada, U.S. ??

I can give you the specified measurements of each piece and figure out what was modified from cut sheet sizes or drawings.
Back sheet 23 1/2 wide X 24 high.
Front sheet pieces should be 23 1/2 wide X 3 1/2 high (2 pcs. across top and bottom) and 2 pc. 2 3/4 X 11 at sides.
Top before bending 25 1/2 X 27.

The parts that needed to be modified when made larger were the door hinge plates. The specified size plate welded to the angle iron corners doesn't reach the door hinge ears so they made their own hinge plates different than specified in drawings.

How does the brick lay out work? The specified size fits 5 bricks across the back without cutting. The bottom had to be cut. Is yours full bricks across the bottom with the bottom put in last to hold the sides tight? Bottom normally was laid across, with cut bricks on right side. The front (last course) required cutting lengthwise.

Notice how the doors normally come to the angle iron edge. You have the front side plates showing. The hinge plates are angled outwards to accommodate the door hinge ears that stick out beyond the stove sides. Yours probably has straight hinge plates.

I see your dimensions for the grandma bear I have 2 square doors and 5 bricks across the back but my top measures 27.5 inches across the top. What is mine?

Grandma made with a wider than normal body. Common enough to see quite a few.

Here are pictures of a normal size Grandpa 29 1/2 wide and a 32 inch wide body.


Notice the wider space from door to angle iron corner. Drawings for each part specify size, and no drawing I have from Fisher has the larger measurements for bottom, back and front plates.

Here is a normal width Grandma made to drawing specifications to compare to yours.
Notice how close doors are to angle iron corners.

Here is the wide body Grandma;


Also notice the hinge plates are modified to reach doors and welded to stove front. They are normally welded to angle iron when built correctly. I can only assume the builder made these to fit longer wood pieces.
Yours probably won't have this rounded type hinge plate since they were specific to VA and W. VA.

Coaly, thank you for the info. I guess it's a grandma. If I were to sell this in Maine, what should I ask for it? Ide say it is in great condition with new fire bricks.

Watch your local Craigslist prices to see what people are asking. You'll find they are a seasonal item.
My first question in post #2 was is your stove pictured in avatar and were the legs cut down?
No one can put a value on a stove sight unseen. If you send pictures to email given above, I can size them and post below. If the legs were cut down, you are comparing to stoves that can be used with adequate floor protection. NFPA standards give floor protection for stoves with minimum 6 inch height clearance. If legs are cut, it can only be used on a non-combustible hearth, so your customer base is greatly reduced as well as value. You need to replace legs with proper length to compare prices since this has been modified. You can't say something is in great condition if it is not as tested, you can't even go by floor protection given in manual. Similar to selling a vehicle in great condition, less engine. Make it a whole stove to get top dollar.

3 hours labor disassembly
3 hours sand blasting
4 hours refinishing
I think I have about $ 550 into it. I guess I'll keep it. But thank you for the offer.

You forgot to add you travel time both ways to get it, gas money for the traveling vehicle, phone time to discuss it, etc......etc....... oops, your time it took to text me several times.........your time to find this website and the time to text to it................and your time to find the stove .........you probably have closer to $3000 into it !
