i have a 1980 Fisher insert, model G635449. My fireplace chimney opening seems to be set deeper than where it lines up perfectly to the insert's damper/chimney. If i completely shove my Fisher in as far back as it will go, it is set 3.5" too deep for me to attach the top and side metal pieces. If i slide it forward so the metal pieces attach, it seems to be a little too far forward for the smoke to vent properly up the chimney.

So what is the correct depth for me to set this insert at? If i push all the way back, will it heat up the brick chimney too much?

Thanks

You need a liner hooked to the insert and run up through the chimney to the top

Yup, need a liner. I used to have one slammed in, just as yours is now. Lined the back of the side and top pieces with fiberglass insulation to act as the block off plate and pushed to seal. Worked well, never had a chimney issue, but was always leery of it.

Fisher does not use model numbers. The model is a Fisher Fireplace Insert.
