Just opened the box-felt like a 10 year old kid on Christmas morning-- I ordered a new Fiskars Super Splitting Axe on E-Bay after hearing about it from all of the folks on Hearth.com. I have been using an 8# maul for the last couple of years and decided to "upgrade" so I gave myself a new present--

Just got back from the wood pile and all I can say is WOW. This axe is amazing

Had a 3ft hard maple log sitting next the wood pile and I stood it up to see what this thing would do--just look at the pics

you could make split rails for fences with this thing

Added a pic of new wood hauler--an upgrade from a 97 Mazda

Pretty funny. I got mine today too! Holy cow!! These things are awesome. I had a pile of kinda punky elm, that my 8# maul was just bouncing off of. The Fiskars went right through it and started a split in the round that I was using to work on. Its a good thing it was cold and rainy today, because if it was nice out, the neighbors would have been out or had their windows open they would have thought I was a mad man because I was laughing while I was splitting. Highly recommended

Glad you like it. I got mine about 1 month ago. I think it's great on smaller stuff. I haven't quite figured out how to do a one shot hit on some of the bigger stuff with it. I've ran into a few larger rounds the old fashioned 8# maul busts apart easier. I even had to resort to the 12# monster maul on a couple. I think it's a very nice tool but not the only one you will need.

Got mine just before I built my splitter. Fiskers is hanging on the garage wall. Oh yes it has been used.

Bigcube-still have the gas powered hydrolic splitter and I will still be using it for the majority of my spitting needs, but I had to check out what everyone was raving about. And boy am I impressed.

the very large rounds is eaiser to splitt with the axe to get some weight off the use your splitter

Where can you buy one? Have been looking all over the web. I'm tired of using my 6 and 8 pound mauls.

I just bought one tonight at SEARS. Its the 2 1/2# pro 28 inch handle. 39.99. 5 bucks less than Fiskars webb. Can't wait to use it.

Yep, I ordered one off of Ebay a month ago and tried it on some ash and I can say without a doubt it works really well. Be carefull though, you could shave with this thing.

Pfft! That ain't no test. Ash will separate just to get out of the way of the axe. I feel guilty using my 20 ton splitter on Ash. Most times I only have to drive the wedge in an inch or two.

YBe carefull though, you could shave with this thing.

That's for sure. Be careful to take a wide stance before swinging the Fiskars. I gave myself a very nice gash a month ago. I like my Super Splitter very much, but somehow I feel that the quality of the steel could be a little better. It's still quite good steel, though.

Just got mine from Sears last weekend. Wonderful addition, but agree that it's not a replacement for the 6lb maul. I struggled for a long time between if I should get the 7854 or 7859; only difference is 2lbs which I don't think is much of a factor for most people. This axe demands respect though...you could quickly end your splitting days if not paying attention! I was splitting some red oak, ash, and beech; all just a breeze.

when you are talking about 2.5# or 4.5#-- 2# can be a big diffrence.

I just wish the handle was a bit longer; see that is the main con in most reviews. Deck2, just curious, where did you get all the wood from?

I bought mine (the 2.25lb super splitter) simply as a small ax and had no intention of making it my primary splitter - and before splitting 7 or 8 cord this winter I would have said the same thing. The short handle greatly increases accuracy and control and is perfect, IMO.

Mass Wine Guy u are so right about the wide stance. I could not wait for weekend so when I got home 9pm Thursday night started spitting some rounds. Lets just say I went into the house with a bloody foot. Lesson learned NEVER CHOP WOOD AT NIGHT. Friday was a painful day at work, but was just glad I still had a foot.

That is what is left of a log truck load from 2 years ago- About 8 cords in all. I got another one sitting at a friends place that I bought last fall. Seems that alot of timber owners were afraid that the Tent Catepillars we have had would destroy their wood and alot had cutting done last fall early winter so I was able to pick up a load of tops(hard maple) for cheap.

Now I just have to stack it!
