Hello - I'll try to be short and to the point. We are installing at Regency I2400 wood burning insert into an existing fireplace. The flue opening is 6.75 x 10.5 clay tile. The total chimney height is 15 ft and it is an exterior chimney. We are in Kentucky so the winters are not terrireasonable mild. We are deciding between going with a FlexKing Pro 6 inch double walled liner without insulation or a FlexKing single walled 6 inch liner with 1/4 inch insulation blanket.

We would like the Pro b/c of the smooth-walled interior for better draft and easier cleaning but we cannot afford to get the Pro AND insulation. It's actually cheaper to get the single walled WITH the insulation but the smooth interior double wall sounds like it might outweigh the 1/4 insulation blanket.

This will be our first experience heating with wood so any advice will be appreciated!

Your problem is going to be getting either liner down that chimney. A single ply liner is going to be six and a quarter inches outside diameter and with that quarter inch wrap it is going to be about seven inches. The two ply liner is gonna ring in at six and five eighths inches and any little out of alignment tile or scrap of mortar sticking out will stop you cold.

Yikes! Thanks for that clarification. So would you suggest dropping down to a 5.5 inch liner? If so, then would you suggest the double walled or the single with liner?
