can i use the fluegaurd "probe" thermometer on single wall pipe? i like it because it goes up to 1700 degrees, where the others don't?

or am i crazy to buy one like this with that high temp reading?

using a med. DW cast stove with 1 single wall stove pipe

Sure you can use it. I have the Condar probe in single wall, but I don't think mine is all that accurate and I'm switching back to an external magnetic therm. Seems like my probe reads a good 200 degrees to high and takes a long time to settle out.

200 degrees to the high!!

not trying to doubt you, but how do you know it's 200 to the high, and not that the other is 200 to low?

do you need a thermometer that reads over 900 on the stove pipe about 18" from the top?
