Why bring the flu temp up high in the morning, is it to establish a strong draft because you are reloading on the morning coals and the flue temp is low? Ive read that a hot burn once a day is good to keep the chimney clean but how would that help to clear out any built up creosote? By the way Begreen thanks for your explanation of the more efficient burn!Good plan. The ranges are somewhat generalized. It's ok to get the flue hot for a brief period of time. I often will take the flue up to 800F (probe temp) with the first burn in the morning. But usually it doesn't get much over 600F.
