Apparently, it's been there in the wastewater from the Marcellus Shales fracking but treated as waste up to now.

Old news though, it's been talked about for quite a while now.

All of our areas have already been "staked up" for lithium mineral rights. Lots of big plans by small prospective companies, but to my knowledge nothing of a commercial scale has come online yet.

It's expensive to setup for and gas companies are not well setup for this. As demand increases this may be more viable especially if there is instability or geopolitical blocking of resources.

Plenty of lithium out there, it comes down to how cheap can it be refined and how to deal with the hazardous waste that is produced from the processing.
