When my Mount Vernon AE was installed late last winter, the dealer told me to leave the fuel setting on "Utility" even if I use hardwood premium pellets. Does anyone know why? It seems I get less heat output on "Utility" than on "Hardwood" but I also seem to use more pellets and the stove burns a bit dirtier.

Haven't seen anything like that recommended. I have been using hardwood or softwood depending on the pellets. No issues yet, but am also burning premium pellets. Believe utility is for less than premium grade pellets or situations where you have higher ash content.
