I have a Jotul C550 Insert that was installed professionally about three years ago and has been a great heater. However last night I got up to check on it in while the lights were all out in the house. The thermometer is where most people place it in the top vent opening.

Since there was no other lights on in the room I could see that there is a very small (1/16 maybe 1/8”) gap between the collar and the liner. Is it possible the inserts collar and liner separated? Shouldn’t there be some sort of locking bracket holding the two together?

This actually appears pretty dangerous and I was shocked that I have never noticed it before. Was curious if anyone else had a similar problem and how it was resolved. Assume the unit will need to be pulled and liner and collar put back together.

Should I not be using the unit until the installer comes out to repair it?

Sorry, did not take a picture.

Thank you,

Frank

It's probably NOT dangerous. It will suck air in as the insert drafts up the the chimney.
The installers should have used the Jotul Draw Down Adaptor Kit (156073) to seal
that area a little better, tho. If it really bothers you, you can either seal it with furnace cement or
jam some fibreglass gasket in the gap.

Thanks Daksy!

Just wanted to make sure its not a fire hazard.

Will tell the dealer about it and the kit over the weekend and set up an appointment for the installer to have it fixed.

Thanks for the answer and part number
