Hey gang, some friends of mine are thinking about installing a gas fireplace into their converted masonry fireplace. They have gas logs in there now, but would like a unit with the blowers and all.

Which types are rated best and perform well in your opinion? They have looked at the Napoleon units and seem to like the style.

They're also having some damp musty odor in the summer months. I remember someone posting about a deoderizer product. Would this help? What causes this odor? Leak in the chimney?

Thanks, Michael

Lots and lots of good gas inserts on the market
Quadrafire QV series www.quadrafire.com
Jotul Kathadin/Camden (broken link removed to http://www.jotulflame.com)
Heatilator Firebrick Series www.heatilator.com
Im shure Travis industries has lots of good ones too.

Venting has a lot to do with efficiency, as well as shutter adjustments. Look for A.F.U.E ratings. You will find that most inserts will be close. By from a dealer with a good rep and that has quality products.
