I am helping someone on a new home that will ultimately be heated with a masonry heater (AKA russian fireplace) with a wood cook stove for cooking and shoulder seasons. Right now he has has it framed up for a large opening in the roof and covered so he can let it sit over the winter (its a multiyear project). Its a single story home. He would like to transition from masonry to double wall above the living space and then go straight up through the roof adjacent to the peak. Its not a long run of pipe possibly 12' from the ceiling to top of stack. Its a retirement home and the goal is once it goes in he doesnt want to have to screw with it again. The wood stove would most likely discharge into a seperate flue built into the side of the heater so it would be similar set up as the heater except most likely smaller diameter.
IMHO what he needs is a higher end brand with 20 year plus durability that offers a transition piece for the bottom end and then good quality top cap. I think he is just boxing out the chase above the roof and then putting in a custom stainless top cap. Any suggestions on brands of he should look at that will meet his requirements?
