Handheld oil squirt can

I want to get a cheap oil squirt can - actually considering this specific Tractor Supply model. The little bottles of multipurpose 3-in-1 oil are now plastic and I've had annoying cracks and leaks.

Do people use car oil as multipurpose shop oil for things like a rusty bolt, wiping down a rusty surface, lubricating a contact point between metal, etc.? Or transmission fluid? Are either OK as an infrequent cutting oil for drilling thick steel?

Heck they all seem to leak. That particular one the seal in the cap ain't so hot , but over all works pretty well.

I keep one can of used hydraulic oil from the Kubota for light oil, and one of 40% STP 60% ATF for heavy, I use it as gun oil too. Both are in a oil can like the one above. Sometimes old technology is the best.

Same here . Hydro oil and a little diesel for part removal/assembly lube. Something about diesel . It just doesn't wash off easy.

I have one similar filled with used motor oil. I use it all the time for lubrication and rust prevention on stuff.

I use a dish soap squirt bottle. They last quite a while and you can apply just one drop or a lot when you need to. They can be difficult to get into small areas without the long flexible spout that the oil can has but I usually use a spray can for that.

Does the ATF and diesel stay mixed?

I have plenty of ATF, as well as both used and new motor oil. Did you strain the used oil? It is probably time to change it in my riding mower and it isn't usually too bad. I like the idea of re-using it for something like general assembly/wipe-down oil.

Yes , it will stay mixed.
I filter all my oil (veg and dino) but only because it gets used in another app.
Prolly not needed for your app depending .Settling it in a large container for a week would get most big stuuf out of oil.
Someone will be along soon to poopoo reusing motor oil. Get yur popcorn.

I use the clean oil drained from my oil bottles before recycling. Have the 1 quart bottle inverted into a one gallon bottle. Leave it be for a few days, then swap. Leaves me with plenty for lubing the yard equipment.
