I just recently had the bypass blow open on its own. Can someone tell me if the bypass locks in place after closing it by pulling it a bit farther. I hear and feel the door slam, but then I can pull it further and it appears to be locking in place. Is that how it is suppose to be used? If yes, then I have not been locking it in place. Duh!

Thanks

my TL300 is similar. Yes, the last of the pull pushes the bar "under tension" to hold it closed. Push it till it stops.

welcome! I just moved away from Indian Lake,,, almost neighbors!

I am still mad at Kenton,,,,no more coon dog trials.

Branchburner will be along sooner or later. He has the same stove as you and knows aaaalllll about it.

Thanks razerface. I feel much better now. When that bypass blew open on its own last eve I just about crapped. And worse than that, there could have been terrible consequences on a full load of wood and unattended when it decided to blow open. Many thanks for the reply. And Yes... what a crime that the coon dog trials closed up in Kenton... Made no sense to me... We live about 8 miles west of Kenton. Where did you move too?

halfway to dayton. I got tired of driving so much to get to work.

For sure I would not want that bypass to open while i was not home! There is a bolt to adjust how tight it locks up on mine too. Yours may be the same. Mine can be seen looking thru the firebox at the dampner door.

Yup, I actually had the same problem with that adjustment several times a few years ago. The damper fell open on its own. quite some time after I had shut it, just out of the blue. First thing I thought was, boy, it would be nice to have a design where gravity worked to help it close by itself rather than open it up!

I did adjust it the tightness, and have never had the problem since. I think it is called the the damper ramp adjustment screw, and is mentioned in the owners manual as to how to adjust. When I was messing around with mine to get it just right, I noticed the entire damper frame assembly was loose, as a few of the bolts holding it seemed to have loosened somehow from the repeated opening and closing of the damper. That may have contributed to the problem, so check that everything feels tight while you're in there.

Welcome to the forums, dyner!

Hello branchburner and thanks for the welcome! I will look for that adjustment this eve. Razerface thought there was one.. Truth is, I might not have a problem now since I learned that I needed to pull the bypass handle till it locks. But I still need to know where that adjustment screw is for future reference. Love this forum and thanks so much for the feed back. Razerface says you are the go to guy for the Oakwood! Being a newbie wood burner has been a bit scary... Truly a learning experience... Everyones help is appreciated.
