Harman Oakwood $$

I am looking at the Harman Oakwood and wanted to runs some prices I have received by the board. The dealer in my area sells the cast black model for $1,650, the white enamal for $1,995 and the brown enamel for $2,095.

Do these seam reasonable?

The one local dealer I found here had the black one for about $1900 and the enameled finishes were roughly $200 more I think. This was during very laste winter here...about mid-March or so. I liked the stove, but we opted for the Morso 3610 instead...same price for a slightly bigger stove that we found worked better with our decor.

I think $1650 for the black stove is very reasonable.

I called a local dealer for a price on the Oakwood to compare with your post. Excellent price, actually well below the MSRP. I don't think you'll find it any lower come August or Sept.

I thought they seemed like very good prices as well but I wanted some confirmation.

Now I just have to decide beteen cast and enamel.

Sorry for the delayed response. I live on the North Shore of Mass but this dealer is in the seacoast region of NH. I am picking up the Cast Black model on Sunday and they actually gave me a little better price than $1650.00. Very nice people!

Just an update. I completed my install this past weekend now I can't wait for the cooler weather so I can fire it up. This is just temporary until I can get the $$ to have the chimney and hearth stone work done.

Nice looking stove! Looks like the puppy is ready to go. (And the dog is looking for a nice lounging spot.) Break it in with small fires while the weather is still warm enough to have all the windows open. It'll smoke a bit for the first few burns.

I wish somebody that has the grill would report in here. I get visions of grease fires in the stove.

I have actually have been wanting to fire it but it has been so #$% hot and humid here in the Northeast that I really didn't want to make it worse.

I actually like the stove more and more everytime I look at it. It took me a while to finally decide but in the end it was the stove I kept coming back to and looking at again.

As for the dog, dont they say if you want the most comfortable seat it the house just move the dog. I'm sure she'll like it too.

I would like to hear a report on that as well. When I first got my quad, I purchased the grill option. Never used it, was afraid to (and I ain't afraid of nothin'). I couldn't figure out how an "air tight" stove could be regulated for safe burn temps with the doors open. Took the darn thing back to the dealer. I would like to hear how it works for ya.

By the way, nice looking stove and install (I am sure when your stone work gets done it will be a beaut'). Make you a bet, when you get that thing all fired up, that dog will lay in front of it until she walks away panting heavily.

Smart dog! Knows what the stoves' for already and you haven't even fired it up!

The cooking grills aren't to bad. And doesn't usually cause your typical "grease Fire" that's what the top load door is for.. haha! Using the grill however does make a mess on the glass. Due to the grease falling in the firebox it tends to splash onto the glass. Easily clean though while the unit is hot and using a damp cloth, usually comes right off.

Bottom line - if your thinking about getting one, just do it because you won't regret it.

Well I had a chance to fire up my new stove a few times last week as it got down in the mid forties where I am in Maine. Small to medium fires with all the windows wide open. So far I really like the stove and it looks great too.

I have noticed that the glass does get sooted up pretty easily. Is that because I was not running real hot fires? What should be used to clean this surface?

To clean the glass I use soft scrub, it's a cleaner for glass top cooking stoves. My stove gets brown very easy also, but a good hot fire is all you need. It's like a self cleaning oven.

On a low to medium burn the glass will become dity, burning the stove hotter on a regular basis will help clean the glass. It's still August!!
